DC Generator

  • A rotating electrical machine which is designed to take the advantage of Faraday Law of electromagnetic induction (EMI) in order to convert mechanical power into DC power.

  • Whenever conductor cut magnetic flux a dynamically induced EMF (voltage) is induced in it.

  • The magnitude of induced EMF is directly proportional to the rate of change of flux linkage.
  • Faradays law of electro magnetic induction:-

When flux links with conductor the conductor as inductor.

Now we have flux are 2 types:-

  1. Time varying flux
  2. Time invarying flux
  • If the flux is time invaring in nature it requires a a relative motion between flux and the conductor for effective rate of change of flux linkage (one should rotate with respect to other)
  • if the flux is time varying then there is no need of relative motion as there is inherent rate of change.
  • DC line do not show any inductance property because flux and conductor both are stationary.
